Nominations Sought for 'Champion for Children' Award

2021 ‘Champion for Children’ Nominations Sought

LACASA Center’s CAP (Child Abuse Prevention) Council and Great Start Livingston are asking Livingston County residents to identify who is a Champion for Children in our community.

Members of the public can submit nominations for the award through March 22.

Nominees for this award may be a person whose support for children and families is evident in the work they do, or, in the way they spend their extra time. The winner could be someone who volunteers to mentor children, provides a safe foster care home, or advocates for vulnerable kids. Past recipients have been educators, coaches, public employees, foster parents, child care providers, and community volunteers.

“Child abuse prevention goes so much beyond identifying and protecting kids in abusive homes,” said LACASA’s Director of Family Prevention and Education Holly Naylor.

“This year has been unlike any other in our lives. Families have been under stress; children’s routines have been disrupted and we have all been limited in our ability to connect with our critical social networks. Being a stable adult for a child experiencing turmoil, dropping off groceries to a family in need and reaching out to parents who are struggling are all prevention efforts that can make a huge impact on a child’s life, but often go unrecognized.

“The CAP Council and Great Start want to invite you to shine a light on the people you know who have continued to strengthen children and families throughout the challenges of the last year, and thank them for their dedication to our kids.”

“Great Start Livingston is partnering with the CAP council to recognize our Champion for Children,” said Robin Schutz, Great Start Livingston coordinator. “Supporting families and children is the focus of our efforts. With this award, we are able to acknowledge those who work tirelessly to make a difference for our Livingston County children and families.”

The person chosen as the 2021 Champion for Children will be recognized at the virtual Plant a Pinwheel Celebration on April 7, which kicks-off National Child Abuse Prevention Month in Livingston County.

If you know a Champion for Children, please submit the nomination form found at lacasacenter.org to the CAP Council at capcouncil@lacasacenter.org or call (517) 548-1350 for more information. Nominations will be accepted through Monday, March 22, 2021.
