LACASA to Mark Child Abuse Prevention Month and
Honor 2026 Champions for Children on April 8 at 12 p.m.
WHAT: LACASA’s Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Council will host the annual Pinwheels for Prevention event and recognize this year’s Champion for Children award winners. The blue pinwheel symbolizes the happy and safe childhood every child deserves. LACASA will also unveil a commissioned painting by Susan Pominville to pay tribute to the agency’s first Canine Advocate, Penny.
WHO: LACASA staff, board members, and advocates, along with guest speakers and musical performances by Voyager Elementary School children’s choir.
WHERE: Howell Carnegie Library, 314 W. Grand River Ave., Howell MI 48843
WHEN: Wednesday, April 8 at 12 p.m.
WHY: At least 1 in 7 children have experienced child abuse or neglect in the past year in the United States, according to national statistics. This is likely an underestimate because many cases are unreported. In 2020, 1,750 children died of abuse and neglect in the United States.
Photo/video opportunities as well as interviews will be available.
