Hello Friends,
If you've driven through Downtown Howell recently, you may have noticed activity on the Thai Café wall across from the courthouse.
Work has officially begun.
Over the past few days, we've been building the mounting surface that will allow the mural to be installed. It's one of the final steps before the artwork itself goes up.
A lot of people have asked why I didn't simply paint the mural directly on the wall. Because of the wall's construction, surface irregularities, and the long-term durability we wanted for the project, I created the mural as an original oil painting first. It was then photographed at extremely high resolution so every palette knife stroke, texture mark, and painted detail could be preserved and reproduced at mural scale.
Now comes the exciting part.
Weather permitting, we're planning the official unveiling at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 23.
Inspired by stories, memories, landmarks, traditions, and experiences shared by our community, this mural was created to reflect what makes Howell special. We'd love for you to be there when it's revealed for the first time.
The unveiling falls on Food Truck Tuesday, so after the curtain drops, grab lunch and enjoy an afternoon downtown.
Because installation is weather dependent, we'll continue sharing updates as we get closer and will confirm the unveiling details once everything is in place.
Things are moving quickly now.
Keep watching...
